56-year-old shoots at random vehicles, kills Orlando mother after claiming she’s being followed

A 56-year-old woman who shot at multiple vehicles that she claims were following her, was arrested after one of the bullets struck and killed an Orlando mother.

Angila Denise Baxter was arrested on Wednesday, January 18, after a weeklong investigation by Orange County Sheriff’s Office detectives into a rash of shootings that took place in north Orlando.

According to police, multiple victims and witnesses came forward to report separate shootings that took place on Wednesday, January 12.

On that night, deputies responded to a crash at 5202 North Powers Drive around 7:17 p.m. At the scene, they discovered the body of 27-year-old Nekaybaw Iyona Collier, who had died from an apparent gunshot wound to the abdomen. During their investigation, police recovered a single bullet casing from the vehicle.

Less than 20 minutes later, while deputies were in the area, they were flagged down by a victim who advised that a black female in a red SUV had just shot at him. The victim said that he was on his way back to a restaurant in the area of North Pine Hills and North Lane, when he saw a red SUV sitting in the middle of the roadway.

The victim says a woman, later identified as Baxter, was sitting in the SUV and was shooting at people driving past her. One of the rounds from the gun struck the victim’s vehicle in the rear and he began following the SUV. While following the vehicle, the victim says the driver started shooting at multiple random vehicles again.

A third victim contacted police two days later and to report a shooting that had occurred on January 12. The victim stated that while she was driving, she heard two thumps on her vehicle, but didn’t think anything of it. The victim stated she was traveling on North Pine Hills Road when a woman in a red SUV stopped next to her.

The victim drove past Baxter’s vehicle while she was cursing and accusing the victim of following her.

A witness spoke with police and told them that she saw Baxter shoot and curse at multiple victims and their vehicles.

That witness was shown a photographic lineup and subsequently identified Baxter as the individual who shot at the victims.

An arrest warrant was issued for Baxter and she was brought in for an interview.

During an interview, Baxter told police that she had multiple firearms for protection “since the Orange County Sheriff’s office had been stalking her for more than two years.”

Baxter stated that multiple vehicles were following her on the day of the shootings. She indicated that one of the vehicles “cut her off,” and that she began shooting at multiple vehicles to “scare them” away.

Baxter was shown a picture of Collier’s vehicle and said she was unsure if it was one of the vehicles that she shot at, claiming that she is followed by multiple vehicles regularly.

Baxter is being charged with aggravated assault, second degree murder with a firearm, and multiple counts of shooting/throwing a missile into a vehicle.
