Orlando teen going 120 mph on I-95 arrested for reckless driving

An 18-year-old was arrested after he was clocked traveling at high speeds on Interstate 95, exceeding 120 mph, and weaving in and out of traffic.

Xavier Phillip Ruiz was arrested by a Florida Highway Patrol trooper after he was observed traveling and changing lanes at high speeds on I-95 this weekend.

According to a report filed by FHP, at around 12:16 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, a deputy observed a Kia Rio traveling southbound at a high rate of speed.

Over the course of five minutes, the deputy observed the Rio, which was being driven by Ruiz, travel at speeds over 100 mph. The vehicle changed lanes multiple times, with the deputy attempting to overtake it unsuccessfully.

The Rio continually weaved in and out of traffic, braking at times for slower traffic.

At approximately 12:21 a.m., the deputy activated emergency lights and sirens and conducted a traffic stop near mile marker 187 on I-95.

Upon stopping the vehicle, the deputy made contact with Ruiz, who apologized for the way he was driving and stated that he was “trying to get to family in Sebastian, Florida.”

The deputy placed Ruiz under arrest a few minutes later and transported him to the Brevard County Jail.
