2-year-old boy killed after vehicle slams into stopped bus

An Orlando toddler was killed late last night after the vehicle in which he was riding slammed into the back of a bus.

The fatal accident took place just before 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

A 29-year-old Orlando woman was driving her 2005 Dodge Caravan northbound on Westside Boulevard, approaching the road’s intersection with Funie Steed Road.

A 53-year-old Ocala man was driving a 2004 Van Hool commuter bus with no passengers northbound on Westside Boulevard, also approaching the intersection with Funie Steed Road. The bus was ahead of the van.

The bus stopped for a four-way stop sign at the intersection.

According to the report, the mother failed to see the bus stopped ahead and, as a result, the front of the van crashed into the back of the bus.

The mother was transported to South Lake Four Corners Hospital with minor injuries.

The 2-year-old child, who was sitting in a forward-facing car seat, was transported to South Lake Four Corners Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The driver of the bus was uninjured in the accident and remained on the scene.
