Motorcyclist killed after fleeing traffic stop in Deltona

A 21-year-old motorcyclist was killed after he fled a traffic stop and crashed into another vehicle in Deltona this weekend.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, on Sunday, March 12, a deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop just after 7 p.m. on a motorcyclist, later identified as Elijah Beauregard, after observing him run a stop sign at Renton Street and Providence Boulevard.

After the deputy engaged his emergency lights, Beauregard allegedly fled at a high rate of speed southbound on Providence Boulevard. A short time after, the deputy deactivated his emergency lights and drove at a normal speed in the same direction.

The deputy observed Beauregard turn north on Saxon Boulevard, losing sight of him due to the high rate of speed he was traveling.

Moments later, the deputy saw that Beauregard’s red Suzuki motorcycle had crashed into a car at the intersection of Saxon Boulevard and Lydia Drive.

Beauregard was found unconscious, laying in the roadway. The deputy attempted to administer CPR until Deltona Fire Rescue arrived and continued lifesaving efforts. Despite their efforts, Beauregard was pronounced deceased at the scene.

In the hours since the fatal accident, friends and family have shown an outpouring of love for Beauregard. A candle lighting has been scheduled for Friday, March 17.
