VIDEO: 2-year-old saved after found unresponsive in DeLeon Springs pool

A 2-year-old girl who was found unresponsive in her family’s pool in DeLeon Springs was saved after she was administered CPR by family members and emergency personnel.

Emergency personnel from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office and Volusia County Fire Rescue responded to a home in DeLeon Springs on Sunday, March 12, after receiving a frantic call regarding a potential drowning at 4:48 p.m.

According to authorities, the 2-year-old girl and several other children were being watched by a family member while their mother was away. The family member found the 2-year-old face-down in the above-ground pool and jumped in to pull her out.

The family member immediately called 911 for help, telling the dispatcher that no one on scene had CPR training.

While sending units to the scene, the 911 dispatch supervisor Thomas Eggers began giving CPR instructions over the phone.

A short time thereafter, a VCSO deputy arrived on the scene and took over CPR before picking up the child and running her to a fire rescue crew that arrived moments later.

After administering CPR, the child awoke and began crying. She was transported to a local hospital in serious condition.

As of Monday, the child remained hospitalized but medical personnel say she’s doing well and showing promising signs of making a full recovery.

The state Department of Children and Families was notified of the incident, and an investigation into the circumstances is ongoing.
