30-year-old pedestrian killed crossing U.S. 192

A 30-year-old Lakeland woman was killed after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing U.S. 192 early this morning.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal accident took place near the intersection of U.S. 192/W Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway and Griffen Road at around 5:03 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15.

A 22-year-old Kissimmee woman was deriving her 2020 Toyota Corolla westbound on U.S. 192, just east of Griffen Road in the outside lane.

The pedestrian was walking in a southerly direction when she entered the westbound lane of U.S. 192 and walked directly into the path of the vehicle.

As a result, the front of the Corolla struck the woman.

After the accident, the driver pulled over in a nearby parking lot and notified law enforcement of the crash.

The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.

For hours on Wednesday morning, U.S. 192 was blocked off to traffic. That roadblock was cleared as of 11 a.m.
