Burglary suspect arrested hours after breaking into DeLand cafe

DeLand police arrested a suspect hours after he allegedly robbed a local cafe.

DeLand Police Department officers arrested 35-year-old Francisco G. Cuellar on Tuesday, March 14, on charges of burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police were called to Chica’s Cafe, located at 215 South Woodland Boulevard, on Tuesday at around 11 a.m. in reference to a burglary that occurred at approximately 2:27 a.m.

Responding officers obtained surveillance video showing an individual attempting to break into the cash register. The individual was not successful in his attempts.

Using the video, investigators issued an attempt to identify the individual and, around 6:30 p.m., were able to locate Cuellar, who matched the description of the person.

Cuellar was found to be in possession of narcotic paraphernalia during a search of his person and was subsequently charged with the additional offense.

Cuellar is currently being held at the Volusia Count Jail on $3,000 bond.
