Seminole High School teacher arrested for trafficking fentanyl

A Seminole High School teacher was arrested over the weekend after she was caught with a trafficking level amount of fentanyl in her possession.

Shavon Pearson, 37, was arrested by Sanford Police Department officers in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 25, after a search of her vehicle turned up marijuana and fentanyl.

Police were called to 200 Yale Drive in the area of Academy Avenue and Carter Avenue in Sanford after receiving reports of a female in a red Dodge Charger pointing a firearm at another suspect.

Upon arrival, officers canvassed the area and eventually spotted the reported vehicle leaving the parking lot of a park. As the vehicle exited the park, officers noticed that the taillights on the vehicle were off.

A traffic stop was conducted and contact was made with Pearson, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle. During the traffic stop, an SPD officer noticed a “rolled cannabis blunt” in the center console of the vehicle.

The officer asked Pearson if she had any firearms in the vehicle and she confirmed that she had one in the glovebox and that she currently holds a concealed weapon permit.

Due to the nature of the earlier call for service, the officer asked Pearson to exit her vehicle and questioned her as to whether or not she had a medical marijuana card.

When Pearson advised that she did not, she stated that someone else had been “in her vehicle earlier.”

After the cigarillo tested positive for marijuana, officers conducted a search of Pearson’s vehicle. In the vehicle, officers found a container with a clear bag of cannabis, and another baggie with a white, granulated, powdery substance.

A cocaine field test was conducted and came back negative before the substance was tested for Fentanyl. That test produced a positive result for the presence of Fentanyl. In total, the weight of that substance was approximately 8 grams.

Pearson was placed in handcuffs and asked for an attorney. She was permitted to contact her parents to respond to the address and recover her vehicle.

During her conversation with her parents, an arrest report indicates that Pearson spontaneously stated that she had a male in her vehicle earlier and that “she was set up by” that person.

Pearson was arrested and transported to the John E. Polk Correctional Facility in Seminole County. She faces a charge of trafficking in 4 grams or more of Fentanyl.

Pearson works as a 9th grade coach at Seminole County High School, according to the school’s website.
