Mark Joseph Lattner

Mark Joseph Lattner, 71, with his family around him, gently passed away in his Florida home Saturday, March 25. He is survived by his wife, Paula (Hatfield) Lattner, of almost 42 years, his sons, Joseph (Alex) their sons, Arthur and Ellis, and Michael (fiance’, Sherita Solis), his brother Kevin Lattner ( Larry Hebert), his sister, Amy Shea (Tim) and nephews, Jason and Jeremy Oppenheimer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Lattner and Miriam (Hermann) Lattner.

Mark was born in Evansville, Indiana and before high school moved to Chicago, Illinois. After high school he became a class A truckdriver and worked over 20 years in the beer industry as a driver/salesman.

Mark loved his family and friends and would continue to visit relatives in Evansville during his 27 years in Chicago. It was on one of these visits that he met his wife, Paula, who moved to the Chicago area shortly after their meeting. After12 years of marriage they moved back to Indiana, with their two sons. In Indiana, Mark was a driver and driver safety instructor in the Motor Vehicle Services Dept. of the United States Postal Service, also a Union Steward. After over 20 years working for the USPS, Mark and his wife retired in Florida.

Mark is known for living a balanced and full life. He did everything well. He was a dedicated worker and just as dedicated to tennis and golf. Almost daily he would be on the tennis court and at least once a week on the golf course. He enjoyed fishing and caught the second largest fish in the state of Indiana in 2016. He was a very good dancer, and usually won most card and board games. He was even a good cook having won awards for his barbecue.

Mark was an avid Notre Dame football fan. He attended a number of games over the years, many times with his cousin, John Lattner, 1953 Notre Dame Heisman winner.

If you knew Mark, you enjoyed being with him because he was one of the kindest persons you would ever meet. To be in his company was always fun because he had a quick wit and could always capture the moment with a funny line. He really enjoyed life, was deeply devoted to his family and friends, and generous with his time and talent. When asked to name a favorite song, he mentioned “Good Thing”, by Paul Revere and the Raiders. Mark’s life was absolutely a Good, Good Thing.
