Obituary for Joseph “Joe” Edmund Sacca

Joseph Edmund Sacca, age 75, passed away May 11, 2022, surrounded by his family. Born June 30, 1946 in New York City, NY, to Dr. Rosario and Clara (Nuñez) Sacca. He graduated from Western Connecticut State University in 1970 with a degree in education. He was one of the tri-captains for their inaugural football team in 1969, and 40 years later was inducted into the university’s sports hall of fame. He began his teaching career in 1970 with the New Milford Public School system and remained there until his retirement. He was also an adjunct faculty member at Western Connecticut State University. During the 31 years he lived in New Milford, Connecticut, he was an active member of the First Congregational Church in New Milford, CT, a member of the Medad Hills Muzzleloading Gun Club, a volunteer at the Danbury Railway Museum and past-president of the IBM Magic Club in Danbury, CT. He was an avid revolutionary war reenactor as a member of Delancy’s Brigade. Upon retiring to Winter Springs, FL in 2001, he was involved with the local train club, Orlando NTrak and model plane club, Deland Radio Control Club. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and NMLRA. He was active in his community and well known for his sense of humor and stories.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, and beloved daughter, Amanda. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marsha; daughter, Jennifer (Gordon) Gillespie of Lexington, SC; granddaughter, Olivia Sacca of Winter Springs, FL; step-granddaughter, Amber Klosowski of Sumter, SC; step-grandson, Adam (Airi) Gillespie of Flushing Meadows, NY; sister, MaryLynn (Michael) Eckert of Iowa City, IA; sister-in-law, Joanna (Dayl) Larsen of Winter Springs, FL; father-in-law, Richard Hodes of Hamden, CT, and his nephews, Scott Parker of Center Conway, NH and Adam Eckert of Nashville, TN.
