Osceola police kill man after he points gun, fires at deputy

An armed man who ignored commands from police to drop his firearm was killed by police after he allegedly pointed his gun and fired at an Osceola County Sheriff’s Office deputy.

The deputy-involved shooting took place at around 3:40 p.m. on Thursday, May 11 after police received several 911 calls of an armed man waiving a gun inside a residential neighborhood..

Deputies responded to Remington Boulevard and Club Villas Lane in Kissimmee and encountered an older, white male with a firearm. The man, who has not yet been identified by police, was given numerous verbal commands to put down his gun.

According to OCSO, instead of complying with the verbal commands of the deputies, the man raised the firearm and pointed it at one of the deputies. An eyewitness says the man fired a shot at the deputy.

In response, deputies fired their firearms and put the man down. After the man was disarmed, police began performing CPR. It was unsuccessful and the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The investigation has been turned over to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for an independent review of the deputies involved.
