Teen fires at car after receiving fake money for marijuana in Deltona

A 19-year-old was quickly apprehended after allegedly firing multiple gunshots at the car of two customers who paid him fake money for marijuana in Deltona this week.

Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the area of Providence Boulevard and East Chapel Drive in Deltona on Thursday, May 11, at around 3 p.m. after receiving calls reporting gunshots in the area.

Upon arrival, deputies found an unoccupied SUV with a flat tire and bullet holes in the passenger side. Witnesses in the area told police that two young men ran away from the vehicle after the shooting. Deputies eventually found both of the individuals and determined that they were the targets of the shooting. Neither individual was injured in the shooting.

The victims, who are 17 and 20 years old, say they used a counterfeit $100 bill to buy marijuana from an Instagram acquaintance. After the fake bill was exchanged for the marijuana, the victims began to drive away. Moments later, they heard glass shattering and the sound of multiple gunshots fired at them.

Although the victims did not know the shooter’s name, they were able to give a description to police.

Using the description, detectives contacted the VSCO Juvenile Services director, who provided information on persons of interest in the area. That research identified 19-year-old Raymon Plummer as a potential suspect.

During their investigation, police found shell casings and broken glass from the shooting a few hundred feet from Plummer’s listed house.

When shown a photo lineup, the 17-year-old victim immediately identified Plummer as the shooter with “100 percent certainty.”

Plummer was located and arrested by VCSO Crime Suppression Team deputies on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and firing a weapon into an occupied vehicle. He was booked into the Volusia County Jail and released on May 12 after posting bond.
