Gertrude R. Zarek

It is with deep sadness that we let you know that our beloved wife and mother Gertrude R. (Trudy) Zarek passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on May 16, 2022, surrounded by her family. Born to Phillip and Minnie in Indianapolis Indiana, she was a graduate of Shortridge High School, Butler University. and the University of Indiana Law School. Earning her law degree in 1959, a time when there were not many women in the profession, she was admitted to the Bar and she served as a Deputy Attorney General of the State of Indiana. In 1961, she married Arnold Zarek and moved to Orlando to raise a family. She was a member of Temple Israel where she taught Sunday School, was a Past President of Sisterhood, and was a member of the National Council of Jewish Women. She was later a member of CRJ. As we grew up, she returned to work at an Orlando area law firm and eventually retired from the Orange County Public School System. She was fond of a good book, a good movie and a good argument. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Jeanette, and her brother Harold, all of Indianapolis. She is survived by her husband of 60+ years, Arnold, her son Michael and his wife Jenny, her daughter Helaine, and many nieces and nephews, their children, and their children’s children. She loved and cherished them all.
