Orlando ranked best city for remote work

An apartment search engine and online marketplace ranked Orlando as the best city in which to work remotely.

Last week, Rent.com published its list of “The Best Cities for Remote Work,” ranking the City Beautiful in its top spot.

The website used several criteria to construct its list, including median rent, rent changes from year to year, access to the internet, average internet speeds, work-from-home population, and number of co-working spaces, among others.

Orlando topped the list with a median rent of $2,075, an average internet speed of 83.46 Mbps, 68 co-working spaces, and 19% of the population working from home.

“Retirees and young professionals alike are flocking to Orlando and it’s easy to figure out why. Consider this city if you want to be a remote worker,” says the website.

Orlando joined multiple other cities across Florida that made the list, including Daytona Beach (11), Fort Lauderdale (21), Tampa (27), Miami (34), West Palm Beach (40), Jacksonville (49), Lakeland (61), Miami Beach (66), Hialeah (90).

Two dozen of the top 25 cities are located in the south or midwest, with only one located on the west coast. The vast majority of the cities on the list also have populations under 250,000 residents.

The ranking follows several other accolades that the city has received in recent months.

Last month, Orlando was ranked by Wallethub as the best large city in the country in which to start a business. On that list, Orlando ranked #2 in Business Environment, #14 in Access to Resources, and #26 in Business Costs, while ranking in last for “Availability of Human Capital.”

Earlier this month, multiple Orlando restaurants were honored with recognition by the MICHELIN Guide.
