Plaza Live closing for renovations, no reopening announced

An entertainment venue near downtown Orlando will soon close its doors to undergo a series of renovations.

The Plaza Live, which is located at 425 N Bumby Avenue in Orlando’s Milk District, will temporarily close on June 1 to begin renovations.

The renovation project is funded in part by the Orange County Tourist Development Tax and will bring “significant enhancements to the venue, improving the overall experience for its patrons and performers alike,” according to a press release from the company.

The venue will be closed to the public during renovations and the company will provide updates as the project nears completion.

The renovations will include upgrades to the venue’s infrastructure including a new sound system, lighting, and stage equipment. The seating area will also undergo a redesign to improve sight lines. The lobby will also be updated to provide a “more welcoming and functional space for patrons,” according to the company.

“We are thrilled to be investing in the future of The Plaza Live and creating a better experience for our audiences and performers. Our goal is to create an even more memorable experience for our guests, and these renovations will allow us to do just that,” reads the statement.

The Plaza Live made headlines earlier this year after an administrative complaint from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation’s Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco regarding a drag show it hosted.

According to the complaint, the venue hosted “A Drag Queen Christmas” on December 28, 2022 that featured sexually explicit content, including exposure of genitalia and sexually-themed songs, and did not take steps to appropriately prohibit children from being in attendance.
