Orlando ranked 25th most expensive city to rent 1-bedroom apartment

A new report ranks Orlando as the 25th most expensive city in which to rent a one-bedroom apartment.

On Wednesday, Zumper released its National Rent Report, which ranks median prices for one-bedroom rentals across the top 100 most populous cities in the United States.

According to the report, the median price for a one-bedroom rental in Orlando is currently $1,650, which represents a slight decrease from last year, when it was around $1,700. The median price for a two-bedroom is currently $1,950, which matches last year.

The national median is currently $1,504 for a one-bedroom rental, marking only the second time in Zumper’s history that the median topped $1,500. The median price for a two-bedroom is currently $1,856.

Orlando ranked just below Tampa (24) and just above St. Petersburg (31), which both had median prices within $70 of the City Beautiful. In addition to the three Central Florida cities, the list featured multiple other cities from the Sunshine State.

That includes Miami, which ranked as the fourth highest with a median price of $2,900 for a one-bedroom rental and $3,930 for a two-bedroom rental.

It also includes Fort Lauderdale, which ranked 13th on the list with a median price of $2,100 for a one-bedroom and $2,880 for a two-bedroom rental.

Rounding out the list of Florida cities were Jacksonville (53) and Tallahassee (71), which both ranked below the national median with one-bedroom prices of $1,300 and $1,100, respectively.

Topping the list was New York, which has a median one-bedroom price of $3,780 and median two-bedroom price of $4,000. Of the top twelve cities, six are located in California, and four are located on the east coast.

Most notably absent from the list were cities in the midwest. Only Chicago (18) cracked the top 50, with Indianapolis (67), Cleveland (68), Detroit (76) and a collection of other midwestern cities ranking towards the bottom of the list.

In recent weeks, Orlando has received recognition as being the best city in which to work remotely, as well as being the best large city in which to start a small business. Earlier this month, multiple Orlando-area restaurants were recognized by the MICHELIN Guide.
