LEGOLAND permanently closing popular roller coaster next month

A popular roller coaster will make its final flight at LEGOLAND Florida next month.

The Flying School roller coaster will permanently close after August 16, 2023, according to a statement issued by LEGOLAND Florida earlier this month.

Formerly known as Swamp Thing at Cypress Gardens, the roller coaster was renamed Flying School when the park became LEGOLAND in 2011.

“Attention Passengers: Last call for boarding! Make your travel arrangements to visit before Aug. 16th to take one last ‘flight’ on Flying School before it soars away,” reads a statement from the park posted through social media.

The ride closure follows several others at Orlando area theme parks this year.

In May, Poseidon’s Fury closed after a 24-year run at Universal’s Islands of Adventure.

At the beginning of the year, Universal closed down five rides including Fievel’s Playland, Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster, Curious George Goes to Town, Dreamworks Destination, and Shrek and Donkey’s Meet & Greet.

In January, Walt Disney World shut down Splash Mountain after 33 years in operation to make way for a new ride themed around The Princess and the Frog.

Earlier this year, LEGOLAND celebrated the addition of its newest ride, Pirate River Quest.
