Amazon opening Print on Demand facility in Orlando

Amazon is opening a new Print on Demand books facility at the company’s fulfillment center near in Orlando.

According to a press release from the Orlando Economic Partnership (OEP), the new facility is the first of its kind in Florida and will allow Amazon to manufacture books locally to support customer fulfillment and delivery operations.

The facility is projected to create over 100 jobs at the fulfillment center, which opened the doors on its 850,000 square-foot space nearly three years ago. The fulfillment center currently employs hundreds of full-time employees, who all receive health insurance, disability insurance, retirement savings plans, and company stock, according to the company.

“Amazon expanding its capabilities from distribution to include manufacturing in its Orlando fulfilment center adds more rungs to the career ladder of opportunities in our region through the company’s tuition reimbursement and workforce development programs,” said Orlando Economic Partnership president and CEO Tim Giuliani.

Print on demand is a form of dropshipping wherein publishers and authors’ products are only created once a sale is made. Those newly formed products are then shipped directly from the facility to a customer who purchased the item through Amazon.
