Osceola mother admits to choking her 13-year-old son to death

A 37-year-old mother was arrested on Monday for allegedly choking her son to death in their Osceola County home.

Jasmin Kennedy was arrested by Osceola County Sheriff’s Office deputies on multiple felony charges related to the strangulation of her 13-year-old son on Monday, August 21.

During a press conference held on Monday afternoon, Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez provided details surrounding the homicide, which took place at a home along Crosley Avenue in St. Cloud.

Deputies responded to the home to find a juvenile who was lying face up in a bed. The juvenile was confirmed to be deceased.

While on scene, Osceola County Fire Rescue members say that Kennedy spontaneously stated that she had killed her son.

Although the cause of death has not yet been confirmed, Lopez indicated that authorities believe it was strangulation.

“We have to wait for the medical examiner’s office to confirm the cause of death,” said Lopez during the press conference.

The child, who was 13-years-old, was living in the home with his mother, his 5-year-old sibling, his grandmother, and his grandmother’s boyfriend.

Kennedy was arrested and transported to the Osceola County Jail. She faces charges of domestic battery by strangulation, child neglect, and aggravated child abuse.

No additional details have been released regarding the incident, although police believe it is isolated.
