David James Goode

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of David Goode on June 13, 2022, our loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to all whose lives he touched.

David was born in Mobile Alabama to Marjorie and Chief James Goode, and moved to Orlando at the young age of one. After High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy and became a Submariner serving on the USS Trutta 421 from 1967-1971. In 1972, he joined the Orlando Police Department devoting most of his career to the Detective Division retiring in 1995. He continued his love of investigative work as a Fraud Investigator for a major Insurance Company until he retired in 2016.

David was so much more than the careers he chose to support his family. He was an avid tinkerer, reader, man of God, photographer, cook, and the ultimate history buff. It was that love of knowledge that made David a master story teller and teacher to all. As a man of a few words, he found joy in reciting little known interesting facts which earned them the title as “Goodeisms” by one of his OPD family members. He had an ongoing love affair with his garage where he was always building cars, boats or whatever came his way. His joy was taking something old and worn out making it new again. He loved fishing, diving and all outside activities.

David was a fabulous mentor and leader. He became an advisor for the High Adventure Explorers when our girls were teenagers, and loved being a part of teaching them they could accomplish anything. In his own humble way, David influenced and improved the lives of so many people in need. Throughout his life, he welcomed those that made wrong turns in their life and assisted them thru the transition of a life gone bad to a productive member of society. Many times, their efforts would fail, but he would continue to support them, forever making a difference in their lives. He believed there was good in everyone, especially those that society had turned its back on.

He met the love of his life, Gloria, in 1973 and knew on the first date he was going to marry her. They married the end of that year and throughout the challenges of life, they remained married for 48 ½ years until his passing. The greatest accomplishments in Dave’s life were his daughters, Melissa and Kristy, whom he instilled his strong values, beliefs and enduring love that will always serve them well in life. His pride in our girls was unmeasurable, and he was rewarded with three granddaughters, Joelle, Ocean, and Luna whom he loved unconditionally and provided him additional sets of ears to tell his stories. He was very loyal to his many lifelong friends, sadly many of whom he has joined in Heaven. He will be dearly missed and forever in the hearts of his family and all he touched.
