Orange County reports fourth case of monkeypox, Florida cases triple

New data from the Florida Department of Health shows that another case of monkeypox was reported in Orange County last week, marking the fourth case reported in the area and sixth in all of Central Florida.

As of July 3, the FDOH Reportable Diseases Frequency Report shows four cases of monkeypox have been reported in Orange County. Of the six cases reported across Central Florida over the past month, one occurred in Lake County and one in Seminole County.

Less than 10 days ago, there were around 16 cases of the disease reported in the state of Florida. As of July 1, that number has more than tripled and now sits at 51.

In total, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say the number of reported cases of the disease have more than doubled across the United States in the past 10 days, from 200 to over 460. That includes 95 cases reported in California, 90 in New York, and 53 in Illinois.

According to the CDC, the monkeypox virus produces similar symptoms to small pox, including fever, headache, muscle pain, chills and fatigue. Symptoms are generally more mild than in small pox cases.
