Another case of monkeypox was reported in Orange County this week, bringing the total reported cases in Central Florida to seven.

The newest case was reported on Wednesday, July 6, through the Florida Department of Health Reportable Diseases Frequency Report. In total, Orange County has reported five cases of the illness, while Lake and Seminole County have each reported one.

The number of cases reported across the state of Florida has quadrupled in the past two weeks, from 16 to 64 as of Wednesday. According to the Centers for Disease Control, one of the Florida cases was reported while the individual was in the United Kingdom.

Over 600 cases have been reported across the United States, up three-fold from the 200 cases reported just over two weeks ago. According to the latest CDC records, over half of those cases were reported in the states of California, New York, and Illinois.

Currently, Florida is reporting the third highest number of cases.

According to the CDC, the monkeypox virus produces similar symptoms to small pox, including fever, headache, muscle pain, chills and fatigue. Symptoms are generally more mild than in small pox cases. For more information on the monkeypox disease, visit the CDC monkeypox website.
