Police warning of t-shirt discount scam through text, Facebook messages

Law enforcement authorities are warning against a new t-shirt discount scam being sent to residents through text and Facebook messages.

Multiple local agencies, including the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office and Longwood Police Department, are warning local residents to be on alert for text and Facebook messages that offer discounts to purchase shirts and other merchandise.

Seminole County Sheriff’s Office says this scam is not from their office and that residents should not click on its link

“We are not selling any shirts…This seems to be a Facebook scam where our followers are receiving these texts,” reads a social media post from the Longwood Police Department.

Officials say the links should not be clicked and that they will lead to malicious websites.

“If you received a text like this, delete it now. The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office is NOT texting you about shirts,” reads a social media post from SCSO.

Dozens of users have reported receiving texts over the past few days.

Police are asking all residents who have received a scam text to mark the message as spam, delete it, and block the phone number.
