Gregory Wayne Taylor

Gregory Wayne Taylor, 71, of Orlando, died on Sunday, July 10, 2022. He was born in Somerset, KY to the late Ernest and Marie Taylor. At the age of 9, Greg’s family moved to Florida. He attended Conway Elementary School, Howard Junior High and graduated from Boone High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and proudly served his country in combat during the conflict in Vietnam. Returning to civilian life, Greg began his employment with the Casselberry Police Department. He then transferred to the Orange County Sherriff’s Office where under the G.I. Bill, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Rollins College. He remained for 30 years and retired with a rank of Sergeant.

Greg was a giving, selfless man who would help anyone in need. He served as Deacon in his church and volunteered his time and service for various charitable organizations. He was a jokester with a dry sense of humor but anyone who knew him, knew it was all for fun. He was a bit of an entrepreneur as well and dabbled in real-estate developments. In his leisure time, Greg loved to travel, and sight see. He was a history and Civil War buff and enjoyed learning facts about his country. His biggest appreciation, however, was food. Greg was known to be a “foodie”, he studied menus of different restaurants. He made it a point to search out places he hadn’t been before and live a new experience. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by Susan (Owens), his beloved wife of 47 years; his loving children, Matthew and wife Nicole, Andrew and his girlfriend Kaitlyn Burke; his adored grandson Nolan; his sister, Ernestine Stange and husband Jack and numerous family and friends too many to mention. Greg will be greeted in Heaven by his parents and reunited with his many pet companions.

Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation on Thursday, July 14 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Conway First Baptist Church, 4000 S Conway Rd., Orlando, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m.

In recognition of his dedication to his country, military honors will be rendered at the church immediately following the funeral service. Greg will be laid to rest in Tuttle’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Monticello, KY.
