Health officials lift blue-green algae warning for two Orlando lakes

Florida Department of Health officials lifted blue-green algae warnings for two lakes in Orlando.

The Orange County division of the FDOH has lifted the health alerts for the presence of blue-green algae in Lake Formosa and Lake Copeland.

“The public may resume normal activities in and around Lake Copeland and Lake Formosa. Because of the fluid and organic nature of algal blooms it is possible that bloom conditions could return so the public is advised to watch for and report future algae blooms,” reads a press release from the FDOH in Orange County.

Earlier this year, health officials warned of the presence of the algae and advised lake-goers to take caution.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection collects and analyzes algal bloom samples. To report a bloom to DEP, call the toll-free hotline at 855-305-3903 or report online. To report fish kills, contact the Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute at 1-800-636-0511. Contact your veterinarian if you believe your pet has become ill after consuming or having contact with blue-green algae contaminated water.
