XFL team coming to Orlando, coached by legendary FSU football alum

Orlando is one of eight cities that will host an XFL team during the organization’s upcoming season.

During an XFL Townhall on Sunday, Dany Garcia and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, owners of the league, announced the eight cities and venues that teams will play in, which are scattered across various parts of the nation.

Three of the eight cities receiving XFL teams are located in the state of Texas, in Arlington, Houston, and San Antonio. Washington, D.C., Las Vegas, St. Louis, and Seattle will also host teams.

The Orlando team will be coached by 14-year NFL veteran Terrell Buckley, who won Super Bowl XXXVI as part of a member of the New England Patriots. Buckley played college football at Florida State University, where he still maintains school records for interceptions (21) and interception return yards (501). Buckley is one of only 11 players to have his jersey retired by the school.

“What’s not to love about Florida? Orlando, the XFL is coming and we’re ready to have a fun time and give you great football. With the sun shining and the fearless attitude that the players are going to bring, we’re going to add a lot of excitement for Floridian football lovers,” reads a statement from the coach on the XFL website.

In addition to Buckley, the team is coached by Robert Ford (Offensive Coordinator), Tony Carter (Defensive Coordinator), as well as Patrick Austin and Larry Lee.

XFL Orlando will play games at Camping World Stadium during the season, which kicks off on February 18, 2023.

According to the organization, the group has partnered with the Walt Disney Company and ESPN for exclusive broadcast rights.
