Orlando man arrested for 2007 murder after fingerprint tech advances

Advancements in finger print technology led to the arrest of a man accused of committing a home invasion homicide in 2007.

According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, 35-year-old Cameron Denard was arrested on Tuesday, August 2, in connection with the January 2007 homicide of Felix Paguada-Lopez.

Police say that Paguada-Lopez was the victim of a “brutal home invasion” in which he was shot and killed. The case remained unsolved for 15 years until this month, when detectives from the OCSO Homicide Cold Case Unit secured an arrest warrant for Denard.

Denard was originally arrested in 2007 for a similar, violent robbery only 16 days after the homicide of Paguada-Lopez. Although detectives recovered a gun at Denard’s house, at the time, they were unable to link him to the murder of Paguada-Lopez.

Through advancements in fingerprint technology over the past two decades, detectives were able to determine that the gun recovered from Denard’s home in 2007 was the same gun used to kill Paguada-Lopez.

Denard is charged with first degree murder and is currently being held at the Orange County Jail.
