Plane experienced mechanical failure before crash landing near UCF

Authorities have released additional details on a pilot’s emergency crash landing on University Boulevard that shut down traffic on Friday.

The pilot, a 40-year-old man from Longwood, says that his aircraft, a 1956 Cessna 182, suffered a mechanical failure that forced the pilot to conduct an emergency landing.

The Cessna crashed on the eastbound lanes of University Boulevard. As it was crashing, the wings of the aircraft struck down two palm trees and the front of the aircraft damaged the driveway wall of a residence.

The aircraft came to rest on the south shoulder of the road, partially blocking the driveway of a residence.

The pilot sustained minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital. There were no passengers in the aircraft at the time of the accident.

The debris and subsequent investigation forced authorities to shut down a stretch of University Boulevard well into the evening on Friday. Just before 9:15 p.m., the road was cleared.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are further investigating the crash, according to FHP.
