City hosting ceremony to induct new Orlando Police Chief

The city of Orlando will host a ceremony to officially hand off the reigns of its police department to the new chief.

Newly appointed Orlando Police Chief Eric D. Smith will be inducted by mayor Buddy Dyer during a Change of Command Ceremony on Wednesday, August 24 at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, which is located at 445 South Magnolia Avenue.

In addition to passing the torch to the new chief, the ceremony will also celebrate the retirement of former chief Orlando Rolón.

The ceremony will be held in the center’s Steinmetz Hall, which officially opened or business this year. Doors open at 9:45 a.m., with the ceremony beginning at 10 a.m.
