26-year-old man killed in head-on crash while traveling wrong way with lights off

A 26-year-old Orlando man was killed in a fatal car accident after his vehicle struck another vehicle head-on while he was driving in the wrong lane without his headlights enabled.

The accident took place on Sunday, September 11, at around 6:32 a.m. near the intersection of State Road 472 and E Minnesota Avenue.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the man was driving a 2014 Kia Rio eastbound in the westbound lane of State Road 472 in Volusia County.

A 2019 Hyundai Elantra being driven by an 18-year-old Deltona woman was traveling westbound, just west of Minnesota Avenue on the inside travel lane, when it collided with the Kia.

According to the report, the Kia did not have its lights turned on before the collision.

As a result, the two vehicles struck each other head on. The Kia was overturned due to the impact. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. The woman and her passenger, a 20-year-old Deltona man, were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
