A car rear-ended a school bus in Volusia County this morning while the bus was stopped with its lights activated to pick up students.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident took place along U.S. Highway 92/International Speedway Boulevard in Volusia County on Tuesday morning around 6:52 a.m.
The school bus was parked in the outside lane of U.S. Hwy 192, just west of Educators Road, with its flashing lights activated and its stop arms extended in order to pick up students.
A 56-year-old Port Orange man was driving a 2007 Chevy Cobalt westbound on U.S. Hwy 192, just west of Educators Road, and did not see the vehicle ahead. The man failed to stop his Cobalt and crashed into the back of the bus, which was carrying 33 students at the time.
The driver of the Cobalt was transported with serious injuries to Halifax Health Medical Center.
The school bus driver, a 59-year-old Daytona Beach woman, was not injured in the crash. One of the students on the bus was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
