Kissimmee issues mandatory curfew due to extensive flooding

The city of Kissimmee has issued a mandatory curfew beginning at 9 p.m. due to extensive flooding from Tropical Storm Ian.

According to Osceola County officials, the curfew will last until 6 a.m. on Friday, September 30, or until further notice.

“Remain at home during that time unless you are required to commute to work or are an essential worker,” reads a statement from the city of Kissimmee government.

Nearly 6,000 residents are reportedly out of power in the city, which saw at least a dozen inches of rain in most parts.

Among the areas most effected are downtown Kissimmee and Buenaventura Lakes, where Osceola County Sheriff’s Office deputies and other emergency personnel have been evacuating residents.

Multiple cities and counties are implementing similar curfews. The city of Winter Park implemented a curfew for its residents earlier today that goes in effect at 5 p.m.
