New safety policies at DeLand football games after man pulls gun

DeLand High School will implement new safety measures at all football games after an incident last month resulted in multiple arrests and one man pulling out a gun.

School officials say that effective immediately, no bags are permitted in the stadium, with the exception of small purses and diaper bags. These bags will be searched before entering the stadium.

The only access to the stadium will be through the South Gate at Hubbard Avenue. The skybox entrance, north entrance, and west gate will no longer be accessible during games.

All spectators will receive a security check before entering the stadium. That security check will be performed with wand metal detectors.

The stadium entrance will be closed at the start of the fourth quarter and alcohol is not permitted at any event.

The changes come in light of an incident that took place in early September, when DeLand Police Department officers responded to the high school after reports of a man pulling a gun out during a fight.
