Blue-green algae alerts for multiple lakes in Orlando

The Florida Department of Health in Orange County has issued multiple blue-green algae alerts for multiple lakes in the Orlando area.

Health officials say that Lake Pearl, Lake Copeland, and Starke Lake are all included in the alert, which is in response to site visits and water samples taken by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection on November 2.

Officials are advising residents that they should exercise caution around blooms, which have the potential to produce toxins.

Residents and visitors to the lakes are advised not to drink, swim, or wade in the waters where there is visible bloom. Keep pets and livestock away from the waters in these locations. Do not eat shellfish from this location.

To report a bloom to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, call 855-305-3903 or report it online.
