Osceola County Schools to close on Thursday due to storm

The Osceola County School district will close schools on Thursday in preparation for Subtropical Storm Nicole, which is expected to make landfall in Florida on Wednesday evening.

The school district made the announcement on Tuesday morning.

“As deteriorating weather conditions are anticipated due to Subtropical Storm Nicole, all Osceola public schools will close on Thursday, November 10,” reads a social media post from the district.

Schools and district offices will also be closed on Friday, November 11, in observance of Veterans’ Day.

According to the National Hurricane Center’s most recent update at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, the center of Subtropical Storm Nicole will approach the Bahamas today and tonight, moving over the islands on Wednesday, before it approaches the east coast of Florida on Wednesday night. The storm is then expected to move across central and northern Florida by Thursday.

Currently, the storm has maximum winds near 50 mph. It is expected to strengthen during the next 36 to 48 hours and is forecast to be near hurricane strength by tomorrow.
