Glenda Shaw

Glenda Shaw, dedicated wife, mother to six, and grandmother to many joined her Savior Jesus Christ on November 4, 2022, at the age of 84 in Plantation, Florida. The first child of Beatrice and Glen Rawls, she was born in Plymouth, Florida on October 3, 1938. Glenda was fiercely protective of her younger brother Johnny as they grew up in Apopka, Florida where most of her mother’s seven sisters lived along with many of her cousins. She graduated from Apopka Memorial High School and in 1956 she first met Jerry Shaw while attending Stetson University. Glenda graduated from Stetson in 1960 and went on to teach physical education in several schools in Orange County.

Glenda’s greatest pleasure in life was time spent with family and friends. She took part in many activities that honored her Lord including worship, bible study, entertaining, travel, reading, games, camping, fishing, air boating, and even hunting. When Jerry and Glenda relocated their residence from Fort Pierce to Lakeport, Florida she expressed the desire to offer hospitality to 1,000 people. The family is certain that they surpassed this goal in over twenty years! She often served churches that she attended by playing piano for Sunday service and special events. Glenda pitched softball for her church’s team and took lessons to fly an airplane. She enjoyed theater and traveling to large cities, often introducing children and grandchildren to new experiences.

Glenda is preceded in death by her brother Johnny, and their parents Beatrice and Glen Rawls. She is also preceded in death by her first husband Edgar (Sonny) King as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

With her creativity, quick wit, and an unparalleled sense of humor, Glenda’s presence will be deeply missed by her entire family. Glenda is survived by her husband Jerry Shaw of 43 years and her daughter Melanie and son-in-law Randy Brown along with her grandchildren Joshua and Jenna Brown, Amanda Finamore, and Noah and Michelle Brown. She is also survived by great-grandchildren: Kaden Eissler, Addison, Michaela, and Harper Brown as well as Aubrey, Hannah, and Elizabeth Finamore, all of Apopka, Florida. Glenda is survived by daughter Christine King, Dan Georgiton, and grandson Kyle Georgiton of Fort Pierce. She is survived by daughter Joy and her son-in-law Andrew Lynskey as well as her grandchildren Eliza who resides in England, and Isla Rose, Scarlet, and Rowan of Plantation, Florida.

Although the biological mother of three, the spouses, children, and grandchildren of Jerry’s biological children also consider Glenda the family’s matriarch. She is survived by Vicki and Michael Albritton of Jacksonville, Florida, Kay Shaw of Midway, Georgia, and Bobby and Kristin Shaw of Fort Pierce, Florida. She is also survived by grandchildren Pam and Eric Supan, Kelly and Brennen Shaw plus Ryan and Landon Shaw as well as great-grandchildren Coby and Kate Supan.

Please join the Shaw and Rawls families in attending a service of worship and celebration of life to be held at Loomis Family Funeral Home at 420 West Main Street in Apopka, Florida on Saturday, November 19 at 3:00 pm.
