Winter Park officials beginning debris pickup for Tropical Storm Nicole this week

Winter Park officials say that this week, crews will begin picking up debris caused by Tropical Storm Nicole.

Beginning Monday, November 14, the city will begin picking up vegetative debris caused by the storm. The city will not pick up other types of debris, citing crews that are still cleaning up from Hurricane Ian.

“Because the impact of TS Nicole was significantly less than what was experienced during Hurricane Ian, and many other cities and counties are still working on clean up from Ian, vegetative debris removal crews are scarce,” reads a statement from the city.

Residents are advised to place tree debris in a bag or container/cart, if possible. Leaves and small vegetative debris should not be placed in loose piles, but rather, should be bagged or containerized.

Private crews will pick up containerized tree debris during regular yard waste pick-up days beginning Wednesday, November 16, while city crews will pick up bagged debris Saturday, November 19, and Sunday, November 20.

City officials say that any bagged or containerized tree debris not picked up this week will be picked up on the next regular yard waste pickup day.

The city says that a date for loose tree debris has not been established, as it awaits a determination on whether or not the removal will be eligible for reimbursement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
