Teen driver crashes into OCSO K-9 unit responding to emergency

A teenage driver crashed into an Orange County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit that had its lights engaged while responding to an emergency.

The accident took place around 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, when a 32-year-old male was driving an OCSO Chevy Tahoe westbound on William C Coleman Drive with a K-9 passenger.

The vehicle was responding to an emergency call and had its lights engaged, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

A 17-year-old Orlando male who was traveling southbound, in the outside lane of Chickasaw Trail in a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta, entered the intersection with William C Coleman Drive at same time, striking the Tahoe in the right rear and overturning the vehicle.

According to the FHP report, the teen driver had a green light and did not see the deputy’s Tahoe enter the intersection due to stopped traffic on the inside lane.

The deputy was transported to the hospital with minor injuries and the K-9 was taken to a veterinarian.
