Alessandro Ferrero

Alessandro Ferrero died Wednesday, November 9, 2022. He was born during WWII, on February 7, 1943, in Chieri Italy. Following the war, his family moved back to their home in Torino, Italy, where he grew up. His pre-university education was at the Jesuit school, Istituto Sociale. He attended medical school at the Universita’ di Torino, the same university attended by his father and grandfather, who were also physicians. His first two years of surgical residency were at Downstate University of New York and the subsequent three years were at Stony Brook. In 1976, he became a Thoracic and Cardiovascular resident. He returned to practice on Long Island after completing his training. In 1980, on his 37th birthday, he became an American citizen. He began his surgical practice in Orlando in 1982 at ORMC. For the next 36 years, he practiced medicine at ORMC, Advent Health and all of their ancillary hospitals. With the four years in Long Island, that is forty years of surgery! He never said no to any request from a doctor, a patient or his family.

He was an adoring husband to Julie and a loving father to his five children: Philip, Sara, Robert, Alessandra (Joseph Burke) and Marjorie. He will be missed by all of us very much.

He was such an erudite man. His interests were many: from classical music, to all genres of history, heraldry, vexillology, the military, mathematics, knots, tartans and more! It seemed as if there was nothing he didn’t know about. He was a wonderful conversationalist.

He was so proud to be an American and just as proud to be an Italian. Throughout his career, he touched the lives of over 20,000 patients, and will continue to touch our lives each and every day. “
