Roy Clyde Bartholomae

For an electrical engineer who worked as a civilian on a USS Nautilus refit, and at Bell Labs after receiving his Master’s Degree from Stanford Roy Clyde Bartholomae wound up watching a lot of The Loud House and Bluey.

Those are his granddaughter’s favorite shows and he loved (and always will love) her and the time he spent with her. Like Bluey’s dad Bandit there was nothing Roy wouldn’t do for the people he loved. He always supported his daughter and helped her achieve her dreams and ensured she always had everything she needed. He drove his son from Pittsburgh to Orlando so they could bond over their shared love of Harry Potter on their way to Universal Studios.

Born on ‘Pi Day’ in 1947 Pittsburgh Roy loved complex math and pie. He met his future wife for the first time on a bus and ran into her again a week later. Never one to do things in the conventional way he asked her out on three dates at once and those dates were for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Later they would have two children together and raise them with his love and humor.

He spent his childhood in Pennsylvania but he never finished growing. He had a lifelong love of science and science fiction. When his children were old enough he bought them an Atari and several games for Christmas. On Christmas Eve he rewrapped the Atari, having already beat all the games, as the children slept while visions of sugar plums danced in their heads.

He lived with his daughter and son in law since the early 2000’s and passed from this world on November 12th, 2022, in Orlando, Florida where he had been a frequent visitor to the Disney Parks with his beloved children and granddaughter.

He is survived by Linda Bartholomae, their son, Matt and their daughter Julie along with her husband Paul and granddaughter Libbie. He will be remembered for his humor, his love, and for being the best granddad and dad in the world, just like Bluey’s dad.
