18-year-old dead, two others injured in Sanford shooting

The Sanford Police Department is investigating a homicide that took place over the weekend that left one person dead and another seriously injured.

Sanford Police officers were called to the scene of a possible shooting at the Hatteras Sound Apartments, located at 13000 Island Bay Circle, on Sunday, November 20, at around 1:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, police located a vehicle parked in the parking lot of the complex that showed signs of damage caused by gunfire. Inside the vehicle, officers located 18-year-old Isaiah Diaz, who was dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

Two additional victims were located and one of them was transported to a local hospital with gunshot wounds.

Through the course of their investigation, investigators determined that multiple subjects approached the vehicle with semi-automatic firearms and opened fire on the vehicle and its occupants.

“Looking at the aftermath of this incident, it is clear that this was a cold and calculated assault on these young men’s lives. The fact that anyone in that vehicle survived is miraculous. This is something that cannot and will not be tolerated in our community,” said Sanford Police Department Chief Cecil Smith.

Anyone with information about this homicide and the possible individuals involved is asked to contact the Central Florida Crimeline at 800-423-8477. Calls made to Crimeline are anonymous, and any information that leads to an arrest may be eligible for up to a $5,000 reward.
