Luz Serrano

Luz Serrano, 79, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2022.
Luz CookieCelina Serrano was born to the late Celina Benitez, a nurse, and Ramon Serrano, a painter, in Puerto Rico on July 8th, 1943. Cookie’s kind and caring nature is what guided her to psychiatry and social work. Anyone that knew her also knew she would lend a helping hand in any way she can. Her passion for the arts flourished in the Big City of New York, where she moved to Manhattan at the age of 9 years old and decided to grow her family roots.

Luz had a timeless, classic style, as she loved dressing and decorating in her favorite colors of black and white, moving furniture and coordinating home renovations projects. She enjoyed music, fashion, entertainment, and culinary arts, all within walking distance – or so she would convince her daughters’ tired feet in the middle of Time’s Square. She followed her mother’s tradition and built her own house, showing how strong, organized and independent women run in the family and ultimately settled in a lovely house near family at the top of a hill, away from the hustle and bustle of city life, but full of outings for freshly fried treats, seafood and shopping for shoes, hats and denim jackets.

Luz is survived by her daughters, Gigi Sanabria and Sally Marrero; her grandchildren Sheila, Meagan, Alisha, Mario, Eugene & 5 great-grand children. She is preceded in death by her brother Ramon Serrano and their parents. Cookie was always the life of every party and we know she is pain-free, has on her best dancing shoes, & is looking down at us with our Lord in Heaven!
