Orange County employees donate over $825,000 to local United Way

Orange County employees raised over $825,000 to benefit the local chapter of United Way.

Employees across the Orange County government, sheriff’s office, clerk of court, supervisor of elections, and comptroller’s office made the donation on Friday, December 2 to the Heart of Florida United Way, according to a press release from Orange County officials.

In its 27th year, the donation campaign raised approximately $826,376 for the nonprofit organization.

More than 250 people attended a check presentation last week to celebrate the milestone, which is the largest contribution the group has ever made to United Way. According to officials, it is nearly 20% higher than the previous record.

Throughout the year, county employees plan events to create awareness about the services offered through Heart of Florida United Way.

The Heart of Florida United Way provides support to veterans, hurricane recovery resources and support for those who may need help through job placement assistance, and financial support for households in difficult situations.

In addition to employee payroll deductions, County fundraising events included an annual golf tournament, which raised over $93,000, the Orange County Fire Rescue 343 challenge event, which raised approximately $17,000, and numerous other fundraising events and activities.

“We are beyond grateful for the generosity of Orange County Government employees and their dedication to making our community a better place,” said Jeff Hayward, President & CEO of Heart of Florida United Way. “Year after year, Orange County steps up in a bigger way for Central Florida. You are making difference, delivering hope and a better future for our neighbors in need.”
