New South Terminal C opening this fall at Orlando International Airport

The new, $2.75 billion South Terminal C will open at the Orlando International Airport later this fall.

According to a press release from officials, the airport’s newest terminal will officially open over a two-week period beginning on September 19 with international flights and continuing on September 26 with domestic flights.

“Although we could open before Labor Day, it is best that we transition airline operations and our customers at a period with less passenger travel than our normal peak summer season,” said OIA Chief Executive Officer Kevin Thibault.

Officials are hopeful that the new terminal will address the growing demands at the airport, which saw record lines and wait times during the 2022 Spring Break season.

“We want to ensure that from day one, Terminal C will be ready to accommodate our growing air service demands while providing the utmost in customer convenience,” said Carson Good, Board Chairman of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.”

Earlier this week, the airport announced that it would no longer require masks be worn throughout its terminals.

Airport officials say the new terminal will combine passenger-centered designs with state-of-the-art technology systems and enhancements that will improve travel efficiency while maintaining passenger safety.

Those enhancements include automated screening lanes in TSA checkpoints, facial recognition for international arrival and departures, and virtual ramp control systems that display aircraft operations on video walls, to name a few.

“A main goal of our construction of the facility was to develop an enhanced technological infrastructure that meets the demands of today’s traveling public,” said Davin Ruohomaki, Senior Director of Construction & Engineering for the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.
