Cars, Coffee series returns to Drive Shack Orlando

The Cars and Coffee Central Florida series will continue with a special McLaren Madness event this weekend.

The event takes place on Sunday, May 1, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Drive Shack Orlando, which is located at 7285 Corner Drive. Multiple exotic, sports, and luxury vehicles will be featured, as the event is open to all makes and models.

The cost to attend is $10, with net proceeds benefiting the Nemours Children’s Hospital.

Display car gates open at 8:30 a.m. and spectators may enter beginning at 9:30 a.m.

The event is family friendly, with dogs on a leash welcome. There are no shop displays, banners, or branded vehicles allowed.

Cuban Sandwich Festival will see biggest sandwich world record attempt this weekend

The Cuban Sandwich Festival will return to central Florida this weekend with a world record attempt to craft the world’s largest cuban sandwich.

The seventh annual installment of the event returns on Sunday, May 1, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Kissimmee Lakefront Park, which is located at 201 Lakeview Drive.

The free event will feature live music, dance performances, beer, wine, food, and the world record attempt, which is currently set at 245 feet. Event organizers will look to build a sandwich that is approximately 250 feet.

The festival will also feature multiple, local restaurants competing for the 2022 Best Cuban Sandwich in the World.

Rollins Museum of Art hosting free, art-making activities workshop

The Rollins Museum of Art will host free art-making workshops for drawing, soldering, and printing this weekend.

The museum’s Spring Fling will take place on Saturday, April 30, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 1000 Holt Avenue in Winter Park.

Spring Fling will feature three separate art stations that will provide step-by-step instructions for participants to learn monotype printmaking, meditative drawing, and soldering.

In addition to the art-making activities, the event will allow residents to engage with the museum’s American Modernisms exhibition through docent-led tours at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The all-ages event is open to the community and no advanced registration is required.

Volusia Cattlemen hosting 72nd Annual Cracker Day this weekend

The Volusia County Cattlemen’s Association will host the 72nd Annual Cracker Day this weekend in DeLand.

The event will take place on Saturday, April 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 3100 E New York Avenue, next to the Volusia County Fairgrounds.

The rodeo will feature bull riding, barrel racing, and team roping, in addition to a greased big chase and boot scrambles for kids.

Admission to the rodeo includes a barbecue lunch and free parking and cost $20 for all ages 13 and older, $10 for children between 6 and 12, and free for all children 5 and under.

Avalon Park community pond clean up

Volunteers are needed to help clean up the Avalon Park community pond.

The Avalon Park Rotary Club and Property Owners Association will take place on Saturday, April 30, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Volunteers will meet at 7:45 a.m. at the flag pole at the pond, which is located at 3801 Avalon Park Boulevard.

After collecting garbage from around the pond, volunteers will return to the flag pole at 10:15 a.m. to dispose of all the garbage collectively.

Osceola gardeners teaching removal of invasive tree

The UF/IFAS Extension in Osceola County will host an upcoming class to teach residents how to safely remove the Brazilian Pepper tree, an invasive species that is dangerous to local flora.

The group will host a Brazilian Pepper Blitz on Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the UF/IFAS Extension in Osceola County, which is located at 1921 Kissimmee Valley Lane.

The class will go over how to identify the species and what tools are required to remove it. In addition, a free tree will be provided to replace the tree.

Apopka Police Department searching for suspect who entered garage, stole vehicle in neighborhood

Apopka Police Department is asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect wanted in connection with stealing multiple items from a garage and a vehicle in the same neighborhood.

According to APD, the auto theft and burglary occurred on Thursday, March 31. The suspect, photographed below, allegedly entered a garage that was left open overnight and stole multiple items from inside. The suspect went on to steal a separate vehicle elsewhere in the neighborhood.

Vegan Earth Day Fest in downtown Orlando this weekend

A local business will host a Vegan Earth Day Fest in downtown Orlando this weekend.

The Persimmon Hollow Brewing Company will host the event on Saturday, April 30, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 227 N Eola Drive.

The festival will feature over 25 vendors selling food, drinks, crafts, art, and services. Live music will also be provided and a speaker will be featured during the event.

Vegan Earth Day Fest is free and open to the public.

37-year-old Orlando woman killed in Ocoee Apopka Road accident

A 37-year-old Orlando woman was killed after crashing her vehicle on Ocoee Apopka Road.

The accident took place on Friday morning around 4:40 a.m. near the intersection of Ocoee Apopka Road and Demastus Lane, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

A witness says that the woman, who has not been identified per FHP policy, was driving a 2007 Nissan Armada northbound on Ocoee Apopka Road when it drifted off the road and collided with a tree and fence.

The woman was pronounced deceased on the scene and the crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.

St Johns River Festival returns to Sanford this weekend

The St. Johns River Festival will return to Sanford for its eleventh installment this weekend.

The event will return on Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, May 1, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Historic Downtown Sanford.

The festival will encompass First Street, Myrtle Avenue, Palmetto Avenue, and Second Street. Over 150 acclaimed local, regional, and national artists will have their works on display during the weekend event.

The event is free to attend and will feature live art performances, food, craft beer, and art workshops, among other activities. All proceeds from the event support the Art-For-Kids Scholarship program, which provides free art classes to children in Seminole County.

“We are happy to bring the community and art lovers together again with the return of the arts festival,” said Kim House, President of St. Johns River Festival of the Arts. “This event truly wouldn’t be possible without our sponsors and the support from the city and volunteers. We’re so grateful to everyone who makes it a success each year.”
