Man arrested for breaking beer bottle on victim’s head and firing gun outside bar

A 58-year-old man who broke a beer bottle over another man’s head before firing a gun at him and a woman has been arrested by Orlando police.

Virgilio Espada was arrested by the Orlando Police Department Fugitive Investigative Unit on Friday, May 26, on multiple felony charges related to an incident that took place earlier this month.

Orlando Police Department East Patrol officers were called to the 7400 block of Hoffner Avenue on May 13 at around 2:10 a.m. after receiving calls regarding a shooting.

According to police, a man and a woman were at a bar having a conversation with Espada. The conversation escalated into an argument before the couple left the bar.

While in the parking lot, the man and the woman were approached by Espada, who allegedly hit the male victim in the head with a beer bottle. The victims say that Espada then pulled out a handgun and threatened to kill them both before firing a shot toward the male and leaving the scene.

Over the following weeks, OPD Violent Crimes detectives were able to identify Espada and obtain an arrest warrant.

Espada is charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
