Universal Orlando announced earlier this month that its newest addition, Minion Land, will open this week.
Minion Land will officially open at the Orlando theme park on August 11, according to a press release by the company.
The section will be anchored by Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast, an all-new attraction that will equip riders with blasters to battle Belle Bottom, Jean Clawed, and the rest of the “Vicious 6” popularized by the film franchise. The attraction joins Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem, which opened over a decade ago.
The new section will also feature multiple dining options, including Illumination’s Minion Café, which will be run by Minions and will feature inventive food fare.
In addition to the café, Minion Land will also house Pop-A-Nana, a sweet and savory popcorn shop, Bake My Day, a bakery featuring Minion-themed treats, and Freeze Ray Pops, which is a walk-up window serving frozen snacks.
In addition to the attractions and dining options, Minion Land will also feature Evil Stuff, a gift shop that will sell to sell apparel, toys, and souvenirs from the film franchise.
Fans looking for photos or sing-alongs will characters will have the opportunity at Illumination Theater, where visitors can meet, greet, and interact with Minions, Gru, Margo, Edith, and other characters from the film franchise.
Minion Land joins a growing list of changes at Universal Orlando and Islands of Adventure over the past year. That includes the closure of Poseidon’s Fury, as well as the announcement by Universal Orlando Resort CEO Mark Woodbury of a new, Super Nintendo World section of the park.
In December, the park introduced its first escape rooms, and earlier this year, Universal Parks and Resorts Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mark Woodbury announced that the park was working on Super Nintendo Land.
