Seminole County officials broke ground on a new fire station in Sanford earlier this week.
On Tuesday, officials from the Seminole County Fire Department and Seminole County Board of County Commissioners gathered to celebrate the ground breaking of Fire Station 39.
The new fire station marks the 21st for Seminole County and will be located at 5639 First Street in Sanford. It will provide service to various parts of Sanford/Heathrow located in District 5 of the county.
According to the county, the additional fire station is projected to help improve response times by a minimum of “over two minutes” in large sections of the search area.

The new station joins several others across the tri-county area that have celebrated milestones this year.
Earlier this summer, Orlando Fire Department shared updates on Orlando Fire Station 11, which is located at the corner of Curry Ford Road and Gaston Foster Road. Coined the “Beast of the East,” the new, 14,918-square-foot facility replaces the old facility at the same location and will serve the Dover Shores community.
Last month, Osceola officials broke ground on Station 85, which will be located next to the Vista Del Sol Apartments in Kissimmee.
In June, Osceola County celebrated the opening of Austin-Tindall Station 67, which is located at 4150 Boggy Creek Road, near Austin Tindell Park in District 5. That fire station project first broke ground in May 2022.
