A popular Mexican restaurant on International Drive was temporarily closed for a day earlier this month after an inspector found live roaches and rodent droppings.
Chuy’s was forced to temporarily close its location at 8123 International Drive on September 13, according to a report filed with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
During the inspection, the restaurant was cited for at least 18 health code violations, including 4 considered high priority.
Among the high priority violations was the presence of rodent activity, as evidenced by at least 14 rat droppings that were found behind an ice machine.
Additionally, at least two live roaches were spotted around a prep area in the kitchen, and roach excrement was found behind the ice machine as well.
The restaurant was permitted to reopen the following day, after it was cited for only six basic violations.
