Birria1983 opening new taco place in downtown Orlando

A taco restaurant that got its start at Orlando’s Dollins Food Hall will open its first brick and mortar location, joining a dozen other taco restaurants in downtown Orlando.

Birria1983 announced this week that it will take over the space at 54 W Church Street, replacing the former Graffiti Junktion that shuttered in late 2019.

The business currently operates out of Dollins Food Hall, located at 18 N Dollins Avenue, and serves up Los Angeles-style Mexican food.

As its namesake suggests, the restaurant focuses on birria cuisine, which originated in the Mexican state of Jalisco.

That includes tacos, quesadillas, burritos, sandwiches, bowls, and even pizza and ramen made in the birria style. In addition to savory dishes, the restaurant features churros made in a variety of ways.

With the new restaurant, Birria1983 will join a growing list of restaurants in downtown Orlando specializing in tacos, including Taco Kat, Solita, and Tacos My Guey, which all opened their doors within the last calendar year.

In total, there are at least a dozen restaurants that serve tacos or Mexican cuisine in downtown Orlando, including Tin & Taco, Reyes Mezcaleria, Gringos Locos, Tacos El Rancho, Wall Street Cantina, F&D Cantina, Don Jefe’s, Guacamoli, and Taco Bell.

Birria1983 has not yet announced an opening date for the new location, which is situated next to the recently opened Orlando Fringe ArtSpace.
